What technology does it use in its construction?
The Hydrotal comes standard with a Tubeless Ready Bead and Continental's Downhill Casing, constructed of 4 layers of 110TPI carcass material for support and compliance, with an additional 2 layers local to the crown, increasing reliability and puncture protection. Paired with a SuperSoft version of their flagship Black Chilli compound focussing on descending, ideal for downhill and enduro use where 100% of the focus is on grip, traction and control.
What is the intended use?
Continental's Hydrotal has been optimised to excel in the worst conditions, when the trail is muddy and unpredictable. The tapered and supported knobs have been designed to penetrate the soft top layer and bite into ground beneath, whilst delivering superb self cleaning properties, aided by the open tread pattern. The tall, aggressive studs provide high stability when cornering hard in loose terrain, featuring a stepped shape, ideal for those who want the option to run a cut spike for maximum versatility.
Our verdict
A true winter contender, for those who ride all year round and race in the harshest of conditions, reliant on quality rubber to drive them over the finish and onto the podium.
