What technology does it use in its construction?
The Shorty II comes in a range of configurations mainly biased toward gravity based disciplines in the MTB world, all equipped with Tubeless Ready technology and Maxxis' proprietary 3C triple compound blend. The Downhill casing 3C Maxx Grip combination delivers impeccable support and protection against the harshest of terrain whilst providing optimal traction, much like the Double Down casing variation with a lighter weight carcass making it easier to pedal on the long and technical Enduro days. Also available is the popular EXO casing with the intermediate level of grip from the 3C Maxx Terra compound, optimised for All Mountain and Trail use.
What is the intended use?
The Shorty II has been developed and improved on the much loved and popular original tyre, perfect for winter conditions in the cold, wet and mud but also performing equally is well in the thick dust and looser terrains across the gravity MTB disciplines. Optimised based on feedback from elite level Downhill and Enduro riders across the world, the second generation of mid-spike tyre features a revised tread pattern, slimmer casing and added sipes for better braking and cornering traction, lower weight and improved mud-shedding abilities.
Our verdict
A new an improved fan favourite, the go to Maxxis tyre for when the dirt is loose and grip is paramount.
